Toddy & Aloysius

Personal project 2023
From The Ink Theif

Process

Toddy and Aloysius are the two bumbling henchmen from the 90's TV show The Ink Thief. They were both fun to make! I knew the pants would be the most work, so I started with them. Each patch of fabric is first pinned into place and cut to fit into the section I want it to go. Then the edges are clipped to give it a frayed effect. Each piece is hand-sewed on to a storebought (second-hand) pair of pants. I did this first with Aloysius, and second with Toddy, mathcing up the colors and patterns seen in the show costumes.

Both finished pants

Next, I needed a mesh shirt to wear over my grey t-shirt. I happened to come accross the perfect candidate at a yard sale, and just had to cut off the sleeves and lace!

The vest that I used was originally sewn by me for an Eddie costume from Rocky Horror Picture Show, but when I had made that vest I purposefully attached the iconic back patches to seperate pieces of fabric before sewing them on. So, when I wanted to use the same pieces for Aloysius like I had planned, I just had to seam rip along a single long edge, instead of picking off the complicated shapes. To the vest I patterend out some arm pieces, whihc were sewn out of leather with a black fabric base. He has a lot of studs on these as well, so I did my best to match the pattern to the reference.

Each arm piece is attached with velcro to the vest, so they can also be detached very easiliy when I want to use it for Eddie again!
