Cardboard Hats

Personal project - 2019

While I created the first cardboard helmets as a project for my theater tech class, I wanted to branch out and see what could be done with the medium. All of them are 100% cardboard and paper, and held together with hot glue.

The third hat I made, the tricorn, uses paper bags for ribbon trim as well as the plumes. For my fourth and final hat, I wanted to use the paper bags essentially as fabric. Large pleated pieces make up the underside of the brim and the bow on the back. I based it off of the extravagant tea hats of the victorian era, complete with taxidermied bird. Trader Joe's bags give the bird's feathers some color.
