Corwin

Original character - 2020

Corwin was inspired by traditional cloth-and-clay dolls and the work of AgosiaArts, whose patterns and pre-made kits I didn't use but I did base much of my process from her videos. He is a new character I created as I went.

Body Process

Corwin was the first time I had made a doll with clay features. I based him off of a Grey Fox and wanted him to be mostly anthropomorphic so he'd be easy to dress. I used Sculpey clay for the head and paws and carved a channel near the edge for the wire to sit into.

His front limbs are tubes of fabric, they are thinner than the paws and had to be hand-stitched up the sides after attaching them. I based the back legs off of teddy bear patterns, they are stuffed seperately from the body and connect at the pelvis for better rotation.

Clothing Process

Like many of my doll projects to come, a major part of my inspiration was attempting to make accurate clothing in miniature. All of Corwin's clothes are removable, and feature real buttons and pockets.

Pinned cuffs

His pants are courderoy, and had to feature a hole for his tail.

Suspenders!

His coat was simply an enlarged version of the shirt, the nice thing about working on doll scale is you can laregely depend on rectangles and it won't be as noticeable. Its made of scrap denim, and lined with cotton.

Lastly, I made him a little journal! It's bound just like a real book, with a fabric spine and pleather cover.
