These five large dragon head puppets were comissioned by Hood River High School's theater department for Jared Booth to make. Since I had worked with him and his group on previous projects (Guardians of the Gorge) and of course, this was my high school, I assited in their construction.
I've saved all the photos here for my archives, but the main steps that I was part of was adding the skin on top of the foam frame, and the paint jobs.
Jared started off with sketches, and then build the frame of each head out of EVA foam strips.
The heads were then given to me, and I covered each of them with sheets of thinner EVA foam.
I returned them to Jared, and he patterned large scale pieces out of craft paper. These are cut out of thick EVA foam mats and shaped with a dremel into sharp angles and points.
Afterwards, each one was painted by Jared, myself, and a small team of other students.
