When I got my hair bleached at the barber's in December 2024, I totally forgot to wear something I didn't care about. One of my favorite shirts got bleach stained on the collar! Oh no! No worries, it's an opportunity.
The before
The first step was to cover the stain. With a seam ripper I completely removed the collar and traced it onto a piece of scrap fabric. After sewing, ironing, and top-stiching the copy, I pinned and sewed it back in place even including the plastic collar boning inside.
With the initial issue fixed, time to have a little fun! The quote here - "one day I will be someone else" - is from the musical Don't Stop My by Dave Malloy and Krista Knight (as well as the workshop cast). In addition to meaning a lot to me, it has a connection to the shirt's backstory as well. For the lettering, I started off typing the quote up on my computer, fixing the layout until I liked it, and using my screen as a light box to trace the lettering nicely onto the scrap fabric.
